I don´t play the bass that often but I have a B40 that I use V12 2 1/2 reeds on and I am quite content with the soprano clarinet like sound I get with this set up but I feel that the mouthpiece sometimes is just a little bit too resistant and inflexible.
I plan to order and test 2-3 other Vandoren MPs to find one that will be a bit more free blowing and that will also work well with Legere reeds. I have done some reading and the B44 seems to be very popular but its tip opening is even closer than that of the B40. The B45 is a bit more open and then there is the B46 (maybe it´s too open and jazzy?) and of course the BD5 which is also supposed to be quite soprano like.
What do you think, which of these would you recommend to me?

While I don't like very open mouthpieces that much, out of what you said I like the BD5 the most! (I use a Fobes RR though)
Just playing them and seeing which you like best is going to work better than just buying what works best for someone else, though, as always!

I have B40, B45 and B46 bass mouthpieces. I tend to use mainly VD blue box 2 1/2 reeds.
In general I prefer the B40. However with all these mouthpieces everything depends on the individual reed, so the same reed may work better on say The B45, but equally another similar reed works best on the B40.
The B46 is more open and requires a slightly softer reed, but I wouldn't consider it Jazzy.

You pretty much covered the whole list of Vandoren mouthpieces, except the B50.
Based on the VD spec sheets, the BD5 is not as open as your B40 and has the same ML facing length. The B46 and B50 would be your choices for a wider Vandoren piece and either might be what you are looking for.
But as we all know too well, we don't play the spec sheets and what works for one of us might not work for you.
I am also a Clark Fobes fan and use his San Francisco RR on my bass clarinet. I like this better than the Vandoren pieces, but that was only after I tested a few pieces to see what worked for me.

I could never get much good out of the Vandoren pieces...have a B40 and a B46.
I second the Fobes pieces...I have an HB (too open) and an RR (right in the sweet spot and the one I use exclusively).
I also play a Fobes 4L on soprano.

Thanks. I believe the B50 will be too open. I have heard some people sounding nice on BD5 but I guess it might be a little bit too close for me. Maybe I should experiment more with different reeds on my B40. Or do you know of any Vandoren or Yamaha MP that works particularly well with legere reeds?

Try a 2.75 Legere Studio Cut tenor sax reed on your B40. It is the same shape as a bass clarinet reed but they do not sell the Studio Cut in bass clarinet.

Also looking for recommendations I've never played bass clarinet. Will be playing a loaner for an upcoming musical in which I will be playing Clarinet, bass clarinet and Bari sax. Knowing mouthpieces make all the difference I'd like to purchase my own bass clarinet mouthpiece. I'm leaning towards a vandoren B46 or B40 or ?? I don't really want to spend too too much since I don't own a bass clarinet as of yet...and not sure how long I will actually play it definitely the next 3 mos possibly 6.
I most often play Bari Sax, Tenor Sax and occasionally clarinet..
Will a rovner bari sax ligature work on a bass clarinet mouthpiece.

I have a Grabner Lawrie Bloom that's great, but a long way from under $80. It's now been replaced by the B1C, which is made with his new material and process following the demise of Zinner blanks. I'm guessing the new ones are great too, but that's a guess.

Wow...I just looked up Grabner...sounds like an amazing mouthpiece from what I read....Although at $400 it's most definitely out....if Bass clarinet was my main instrument I'd definitely go for it....Seems like the Lawton mouthpiece for saxophone...I surely don't play either Clarinet or bass clarinet enough to warrant spending that kind of $$$.
Sax is my main instrument clarinet just really for this musical and maybe in a local community band if there are enough horn players..I play saxophone in 3 of 7 local community bands and believe it or not French horn in the other 4...and Tenor sax and horn depending on the piece for a church with their choir....All this for the love and fun of it...not my career...

Fobes I've read are really good mouthpieces...but, the debut seems like a cheapie student model....looking for something better than that...although I may look into it as it's definitely cheap.....

It's molded plastic instead of hand-finished hard rubber but it's a very nice-playing piece. I think it would be a good choice for your needs. I don't think you'll find a baritone sax ligature that will fit a bass clarinet mouthpiece.
