Boosey's website lists 2 clarinets, Eb clarinet, bass clarinet, alto sax.
Will we really need 5 people or can some of this be doubled?
Thanks

In the past month I played in two different programs that included this. All five are important.

I also performed this within the past two weeks. Of the five parts, the Eb clarinet (which I just performed) could be left out if you absolutely had to leave something out.
Principal and second clarinets have important roles. Bass and sax have important solos. The Eb is playing section clarinet and adding color, but often doubled by the picc.
(Not advocating for dispensing with the Eb, just that it is the most-dispensable of the parts).

Thanks for your helpful comments.
Looks like getting 5 players will not be difficult, either.

Make sure you have an Alto sax player who can count. Last time I did this the goon who played alto, over several performances, missed crucial entries in every one. And he's a classically trained player, now has a job in the RNZ Navy Band.
