Does anyone know any bad habits that you can pick up from switching to double lip when practising - I'm trying to learn it to cure quite a bad 'bite' in my embouchre, but I just wondered if it could have some negative effects too ? Also, can anyone suggest the best ways to practise to learn double lip?
Thanks a lot,
Richard D

just do it--over and over and over until it is natural. I switched when I was in the 8th grade and had braces. Had to because of the pain involved in touching the mouthpiece with my teeth. So, I can't really remember any bad habits, except maybe to watch how you tongue. Don't change the tip of the tongue to the tip of the reed. Also, make sure you get enough of the mouthpiece into your mouth to be able to have a nice even long tone that is in tune.
I would recommend practicing with a tuner right in front of you for a while to see if you're changing pitch with the new embouchure.
other than that, just keep on keeping on until it hurts.

Bite comes from the positions you put upper and lower lips on the mouthpiece.
Upper should be very shallow than the lower. You should feel as if the back of
upper teeth is touching the mouthpiece. This can be easily understood when
the forces vectors are considered. If Y directions match the forces become
big but if not match small.
