 Very Sharp throat G#: Fixable?
Author: gavalanche20

I have a Jupiter 931S that plays fine but is very sharp on the throat G# by around 20-30 cents. I can bring it down using all but the left index finger but obviously that would be a hassle for quicker passages. Is this something that can be fixed by adjusting the height of the keys, or is there another way I can fix it?

Height of keys or....
Take the g# key off and fill in some material on the "upper" side of tone hole (closest to the mouthpiece).
You will get various advice on what to use to fill the hole - tape, epoxy etc. Jack Brymer used plasticine, others use multiple layers of nail polish. I'd suggest blue tack (also called tricky tack) for preliminary experiments, use something more permanent if that works....

Keep the key heights open otherwise the tone quality will suffer if you close them down. The throat A and G# keys should open to 2mm or slightly (but not much) more so the throat notes speak cleanly.

As the throat G# key is mainly used for throat G#, altering that tonehole won't have much or any affect any other note that doesn't involve that key.

Thanks for the tips. In the end I went with changing the pad height as I was able to bring down the G# while still maintaining a fairly clear tone. I guess it's possible that it was sharp in the first place because of wear on the cork of the G# key?
