There was a man looking for a ride to his hotel. Going our way so I offered him a lift. We ended up spending 2 hrs with Mr. David Weber (Pedagogue extraordinaire!) (mef & my 12 y.o clarinet playing son who had his mouth open for a long time - don't worry he wasn't alone! : 0
David's stories of playing in the NBC Symphony Orchestra under Toscanini are incredible. He spoke at length about Benny Goodman, who took a few classical lessons from David. What a class act! Still playing strong at 87 years old! Best, mw

Do a search on the Internet using some of the info in my post or look at the last issue or 2 of The Clarinet published by ICA.
PS - Look up Pedagogue in the dictionary, too. There was a time that I didn't know exactly what it meant either.
PPS - There is no such thing as a dumb question, unless you fail to follow through & obtain the correct answer!

M W - I had the great pleasure of watching-listening at David W's Master Class Sat. AM-noon [OU Symp.], his rehearsing 2 very skillful cl'ists in the playing of a concerto and several symphonic pieces, Scherazade and Beeth. 6 included. It was really illuminating how he instructed them , and the results were magnificent!! Your experience is a "once in a lifetime" , congrats. Don

We came 5 minutes late and "sat & stood" on the stairway .... with our mouths & minds open! Mr. Weber (his Americanized name; his family has polish roots, even though he was raised in Lithuania) is something else.
Robert Riseling & the Choir were outstanding today.
Ricardo Morales was incredible. He played with no encore, which disappointed some I am sure (remeber, eh was the close & there were planes to be caught. His Bucolique was INCREDIBLE. His Brahms Sonata had a soft quality & touch that few will ever begin to approach. He closed with Debussy's Premiere Rhapsodie to a standing ovation that brought he & his piano accompaniest back for 4 bows. He clearly has a feel & understanding of French Music that few twice his age will ever experience. W-O-W

PS Roger Garrett plays a mean Basset clarinet or horn (nort sure which it was, perhaps you can help?? --- it fails me now that I have seeen so many clarinets in a scant few days)

I know exactly what your talking about because I studied with weber for 5 years and the stories that he told me about playing in such a great orchestra under the great toscanini were great and those same stories influenced me into becoming a professional clarinetist. And one thing that other weber students and myself always say is that not only is he one of the best teachers ever but he is a great person as well.
