 Lomax Humidpro Cases

For a variety of reasons I am strongly considering buying a Lomax triple case for my Bb, A and Eb which all are in need of new cases. I have read varying opinions on whether it is good, neutral, or bad to have humidifiers in the case. I have seen some testimonials for Lomax cases and two-way humidifying packs, but not as much discussion about these compared to humidistats, orange peels, etc. Is there any consensus on if there are downsides to two-way humidifiers such as those in the Lomax cases? Should I be concerned about this case for any reason?

Logically, two-way humidifying (with a hygrometer to check that roughly the desired humidity is reached) makes sense to me, as the instruments won't be in a totally dry nor potentially excessively humid climate. This seems like the happy medium between humidifying or not humidifying at all, but I am no expert on this topic.

I have an Eb Humidipro case, and a Double Bb/A Humidipro. I love the protection. Through recent travels, I was very glad to know they were safe. Fully loaded, the double can be heavy, I suppose the triple would be heavier, still.

Do you often play all three at a gig? I’ve found the Bb/Eb double common, and of course the Bb/A. Through experiment, I found the double Bb/A case will safely hold the Bb/Eb!

Ken,

I commonly play on all three in my ensembles at college, which is part of why I was looking at triple cases such as the Lomax. I also figure once I start traveling to take orchestra auditions that it will make my life easier to have fewer cases to take with me.

I'm not too concerned about the weight of the Lomax case. I keep way too much music in my current double case, so it weighs a little over 30 pounds and is similar in dimensions to the Lomax triple. I don't foresee the Lomax case getting to be much heavier than that.

Good to hear you have had positive experiences with the brand and thank you for your input. Do you have any opinion on the two-way humidifiers?

Funny story - at Laguardia the Security System flagged my Humid-Pacs in the cases as possible explosives! We took everything apart and out of the cases. They know about Humid-Pacs now!

Funny story Ken!

Never heard a bad thing about them. Only very positive things. I'm sure you will be happy.

They are tremendous - I have 3 of them (had 4, sold 1).

Allow them to air out from time to time to circulate air as they are air tight.
