Hi ! I have an audition at Crane School of Music on Sunday.. I'm torn between which to play, Mozart Clarinet Concerto ( My all state piece ) or Caprice #1 by Cavillini. They both are great, and fun... which do you recommond ?

I really like the MOzart Concerto so if I were you then I would do the Mozart piece. but that is only me remember just pick the one that you think sounds the best. I hope you do well on your audition.

Are you going to CYM? I went there last year. If you are playing for Dr. Woy, he's the main clarinet teacher at Crane, here's what my experiences with him are: playing quality matter a ton more than difficulty. I was fifth chair last year in Wind Ensemble (the highest group), I just finished 9th grade and I played the Weber No. 1, a level 5. Everyone else in the Wind Ensemble clarinet section had played a level 6 but I had done a really good job. There were a bunch of people in the middle ensemble who played solos harder than mine. So play whichever you can really do well, not which is harder. And about five or six out of the 30 clarinetists last year played the Mozart, don't play that unless you can really do a really spectacular job and stand out from the rest.
Dr. Woy is really nice and a good teacher. Good luck and have fun!
