Hello there,
i am trying to overhaul an old albert system clarinet and i came across with an issue at the register key..from the one side it looks ruined as you can see in the photo..as some was trying with pliers to adjust it i don't know and the screw stucks inside..
What can i do in that case?

Drive the screw back out, clean and straighten it and then drive it all the way through and that will open up the narrowed end of the key barrel.
Then swage it with the screw fitted to reshape the damaged end of the key barrel and fraise the end back to remove the rough edges and so it fits between the pillars.

thanks a lot for your quick reply! Probably it will need a lot of force to drive the screw all the way through to open the narrowed end... What's the proper way to do it?

I use a narrower diameter piece of steel to drive the rod screw through once it's inside the key barrel (such as a 2mm high speed steel reamer), but it's always a risky operation to do. I don't like doing this as I know some damage can be done no matter how careful you are.
The danger is doing damage to the end of the key barrel at the lower end as that has to be supported for the rod screw to be able to go through, but keeping the key barrel in place.
Use a wooden block with a hole drilled through it so the key barrel won't be damaged as using a bench chuck or anything steel will cause damage to the end of the key barrel. Brass will be too soft so that can narrow in and prevent the screw going through.

Just to add... The pivot rod barrel is probably bent where it meets the key, which may be why someone had a hard time getting it out.
