Great that they are expanding to include slightly older folks.
The salary sounds like a bit of a "calculation" based on added items such as "housing allowance" (which is non taxable), clothing allowance and a few others. They give you a rough "real world" dollar equivalent in that figure. If you really want to know the SALARY, I would Google military pay for E-6 (where you start after basic training in the Specialty Bands of D.C.).
Absolutely a great gig if you can get it !!!!!

Those auditioning get the list of the music now. Have it faxed or emailed. Most of the audition will be very hard. Practicing your sight reading everyday for hours. These auditions are as hard as symphony auditions with about 100 people auditioning.
I need to say it was in 1980 when I was in the Air Force in Washington, so things may have changed a bit I'm sure. It will still be a wicked hard audition. Try to get in 4 to 6 hours of playing each day. Hope someone on this board wins! Have a blast.
Expect to see orchestra music being the focus of your audition. Not band music.
I'll donate 2 custom mouthpieces and 2 boxes of reeds to the first 2 people. Also guide you with the music if you want opinions.
