Just wanted to share this video with everyone. I enjoy these types of videos made by James Zimmermann.

This video is stellar and extremely well-done in my opinion. If you haven’t seen the Mendelssohn 3 video, seek it out.

James Zimmerman's entire series is the best thing I've seen on the Web to educate clarinetists on the realities of orchestral playing. That he is offering it for free is even more remarkable.

Regarding the Ginastera solo, it does seem to me that we are all creatures of habit, and, as such, many clarinetists can play the difficult passages in Ravel's Daphnis simply because they have been told they need to woodshed them repeatedly, for years if necessary, and have made it their business to do so. Mr. Zimmerman was playing the Ginastera for the first time and did very well considering he probably hasn't practiced it as much as he has practiced the Ravel. My guess is that if he put in the time, he could probably play it at the faster tempo indicated by the composer. That doesn't mean the faster tempo would be the best choice musically, of course.

Then there are always those players who seem to be able to toss off passages like this seemingly without trepidation, as the young woman in this youth orchestra does: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Ginestera+Variaciones+Estelles+Jonde.
