 Which is best for me?

Not sure if this type of question is ok so delete it if it’s not.

Can anyone recommend a good Resin intermediate level Bb clarinet. The house I have has temperature fluctuations in winter and I feel a wooden clarinet would suffer. I played for years and I’m looking to pick it back up but I’m not sure where to start, I only know I strongly disliked the last one I had (Lark m4001) and I liked my first one but I don’t remember it’s make.

Thanks

Get a Vito 7214 (or V40 for a little more money) in good condition. I play Selmer large bore clarinets but use these for outdoor gigs and also overhaul them and supply them to middle schools.

Feel free to contact me offline

YES......the Vito!!

The old Bundys and Vitos which you can find used at almost any music store these days for around $400 are actually quite amazing. I recently picked up a student's horn just to make sure it wasn't getting in her way and I was blown away by the wonderful sound and really good intonation.

I NEVER got this feel with the student line Selmers, or (God forbid) Buffet B12.

Yup. Vito Resotone. You can get one DIRT cheap on ebay, pay for an overhaul, and have a great weather resistant horn.

I owned and gigged with a Vito 7214 for years, and they can be surprisingly good when properly maintained.

The 7114/7214 has been in production for decades; you might find cloudy, worn, or pitted nickel plating on examples that have been in use for a long time. There are so many Vitos out there that you needn't settle for one that's all beat up; wait for a nice one to come along.

You don't say how much you want to spend, but if you want new, you could look at the Backun Alpha or the Ridenour Lyrique 576.

Backun Beta, Lyrique Libertas, Lyrique 570C
Ridenour RAmt36, Vandoren 15RV Lyre mouthpieces
Rovner Dark and Rovner Versa ligatures
Legere reeds

The new Uebel Etude ABS clarinet looks like it has a stellar keywork (the keywork quality in all their models is extremely good, IMHO). If you're located in Europe, it'd be worth a look, but it doesn't seem to be available in the US.
Recently, I've got a Yamaha YCL 26 for repair, which has very solid intonation for such a cheap instrument and a nice, yet somewhat too direct sound, quite similar to the more recent 450 and 650 clarinets. One could fix this with a better bell, which I believe dramatically improves throat and altissimo tones. This instrument's responseviness is splendid, the keywork is solid, but rattles and needs swedging in many places. No sharpness issues as described with the recent ycl 250 either.

Of course a used ycl 26 is a super cheap option, but since you didn't specify a budget, I thought I'd throw that in, too.
Other posters already mentioned the other relevant resin instruments. I'm a huge fan of well made resin/abs instruments, as they never "get bad" and seem to voice tremendously well due to the smooth bore (is that guess right?)

Best regards,
Christian
