Maybe you can share a picture?
One scratch (or two) are much too small to influence the acoustics in any noticeable way.
However, many scratches can make the bore essentially larger. That may be noticeable. But polishing means essentially removal of all material between the scratches which certainly makes the bore wider.
With an old instrument the question whether the diameter of the bore is still circular along the whole length may be more important. An oval bore is problematic.
