Hello,
I've always wanted a metal clarinet so I thought why not? I find a craigslist ad close to me. Metal clarinet $35. I figure it's going to be silver like all the other metal clarinets I have seen. It's an older lady that I speak to on the phone. No pictures. It is indeed silver on the inside however the exteriour is black. This clarinet was used in the military band at Fort Meade SD. I am wondering if anyone on here would have any idea what the military may have coated this clarinet with? She didn't. Could it be spray paint? I don't even know.
Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.
I can't upload pictures so here's a link to an imgur post with pictures of the clarinet.

Probably is spray paint, so should be fairly easy to remove with paint stripper or solvents without harming the silver plate.

Would you happen to know what sort of solvent is my best bet? Should I leave it as "historical interest"? Thanks foe your time!

If you decide to remove the laquer then acetone would probably work, but be sure to remove all the keywork first.
