 Swan Lake - Mazurka.

Hi all,

The orchestra I play in are doing almost the whole of Swan Lake (rather than the suite) and the second clarinets (two of us) have a query about a couple of notes in the Mazurka.

At the point where the two clarinets are in very exposed close harmony (figure 61 in the Forberg edition, see attachment) the printed part we have been given has A natural in the fourth bar and the identical bar slightly later. However, a part we have downloaded which I have used for the attachment has A flat (as per the key signature). Then I looked at the full score and that is as per the printed part!

Does anyone have any particular experience of this piece - is this perhaps one of those classic perpetuated misprints (which do happen)? I actually have been thinking that A flat sounds right but would welcome advice from others!

Thanks a lot!

Vanessa.

PS Apologies - I've just realised that I have posted this multiple times - I had a bit of trouble with the attachment - webmaster please feel free to delete the others!

The Bolshoi Theater orchestra has A flats first and A naturals later, both times they occur;

1:00 - 1:17 and 1:47 - 1:51.

That is the only way I have ever heard it.

Ken is right about that. I played it about 50 times and can confirm it.

Yes it's correct, not that I've played 50 times like Mark! :)
