I recently purchased a new copy of the David Hite Artistic Studies - Book 1 From the French School - to replace my old worn out copy, bought many years ago (late 1980's? )
My old copy was well used and contained numerous pencil markings. Thus I wanted a pristine copy in my library to use with students, when needed.
Beware that the newest printing is on yellow-tinged paper, not the usual white stock paper of previous editions. Not sure why the publishers made this change (or when), but it's visually annoying, especially after being used to seeing the exercises on pure white paper.
Attached are cover images of the old and new version. Get the older version if they are still available.

GBK,
I was just looking at my Book II which I use a lot with bass clarinet and I was struck with the cover as well. However, my attention was focused on the price, a princely $3.50.
Remember in in the old days, when reeds were usually about $.25 and any self respecting music store had a reed light on the counter to assist you in selecting the best reed.

Hank,
I just looked at my first copy (1960's) of the Rose 40- volume 1, and it has the enormous list price of $1.
Yes, I also remember going to the local music store while at college and having them let clarinet players select individual reeds from old purple plastic boxes of Vandoren reeds.

The color of the paper in this particular volume 'pales in comparison' to all the other issues I have with it!
