 Behn Epic Mouthpiece

After returning to playing bass.... I tried a dozen or more bass clarinet mouthpieces from stock/standard issue to the boutique mouthpieces.

Brad's Epic is simply the best mouthpiece I've ever played. I now have about a month on it and it's truly an amazing mouthpiece. It's "tight". The articulation is effortless, especially when bouncing around for large intervals. The tonal qualities are equally amazing.

Brad is a joy to work with as well. A true gentleman who loves his craft. He's very accessible and believes in 100% customer satisfaction.

If you're in the market for a clarinet or sax mouthpiece, I would urge you to check out Behn mouthpieces!

Brad Behn went on a cross country road trip going to damn near every junk store, music store, & antique store in America on the quest to find the perfect mouthpiece. Having lived a nomadic lifestyle at one point in my life, I can appreciate that level of discomfort he must've been through living in his car, and just for something as "vain" as a mouthpiece... or should I say... as BEHN *bah dum tss*

I'm not surprised his products are great enough to justify the $360-$780 price tags. I'm happy you found the piece for you; many clarinetists are jealous of you right now most of us never find the "perfect mouthpiece". I'm still rocking the stock piece that came with my Selmer 1430LP. Many clarinetists would agree that BEHN is definitely a brand to try when looking for your own best "money's no object" pieces.

I keep thinking of all the sub-$100 'pieces I went through, searching for the one that did everything well. I spent many times over what I ended up paying for a top quality mouthpiece from an artisan of renown.

When it comes to mouthpieces, you get what you pay for--and you pay for what you get.

Pony up, and get what you really need.

Every time I see a post like this, I want to check in two years later to see how it’s going.

I'll provide an update for my Epic equivalent Behn mouthpiece.

The best $800 (and cheapest money-just in frustration-to never have to endure another Vandoren product) I've ever spent for my playing. Sure I could have bought 10-$80 mouthpieces and found something ok. My single purchase was a better deal. If if I every have to have Brad adjust it, it's free for the rest of my life.

That's a good deal.

I have to agree with the op. I bought a Sonos and it's the best money I've ever spent on anything. It's a splendid mouthpiece and Brad is a stand up guy.

I made my way up Brad's lineup, trying out his Zinner model which was excellent, his now-discontinued Artist model, and finally the Epic HCV which has been my primary mouthpiece for over two years now (since February 2016). It's everything I've ever wanted, combining the aspects I liked best in my collection of vintage and high-end mouthpieces, most of which I have sold off since.

Brad also does a great job refacing or restoring mouthpieces.
