Low C Bass Clarinet in A?

Clarinet community, I believe I've witnessed a Low C Bass Clarinet in A. It comes in at 0:35 into the video. God bless Alex Simu and his little cotton socks.

I only checked very briefly so couldn't see a very good angle of what he is pressing but looks like a Bb bass clarinet. He plays a low A (concert) which is possible by lowering the bottom C (extension, something in the bell, etc.).

You're right clarnibass. Wonderful thing about YouTube is that you can watch something at half speed and hear audio at original pitch too. Watching his finger patterns, I can see that it is a Bb bass and I can't see the bell but your suggestion would work. I can't believe I thought of a Low C Bass in A; those aren't made anymore and even so successful musicians outside of radio pop aren't so rich that they could custom order such a thing. Low C basses are expensive enough.

Alex Simu has all sorts of weird and wacky clarinets that he manages to sound amazing on! I wouldn't be suprized if he had a custom low B extension made for his bass clarinet. He tends to take cheap instruments (like his Bundy alto "Tenor" clarinet) and customizes them.

My Selmer/Stephen Fox modified low C bass has the low C on the body of the clarinet and uses the bell tone hole as a vent. Covering the vent takes the range down to B.

The Buffet low C (since the 90s at least) and Selmer low Eb are more or less the same (getting a low D on the Selmer). It might be possible to use a low Eb Selmer bell on the low C model to get the B but likely needs some modification (from memory so not sure, it would work mechanically, but low C would be sharp). On the Buffet the B is a little sharp... borderline usable.

Hi,
it´s a plastik bass with only one register-key and an extension to low ??.
Interesting is the position of the pickup, in the upperjoint.
