 Centered Tone?

I wrote to the list a few weeks ago regarding a Selmer depose, serial P4977. There is nothing marked to attest its model. By the serial it was suggested it is a Centered Tone.

However, I would like to be 100% sure before committing myself to acquire it. I am attaching a couple of photos so more experienced people like Chris P. or others may examine them and, if possible, give me the assurance I am looking for.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think it is. The serial number places it as being made in 1953, one year too early. However, this does not mean that it is a bad instrument. I imagine it shares many features (including the register vent) and possibly even a similar bore as the Centered Tone. If you can get it for cheap it would probably be a good buy.

It is definitely a Centered Tone - it has all the right features and is well within the serial number range as Centered Tones were made well before the supposed 1954 period.

I had an N series Centered Tone made before 1954 and also aware there are slightly older ones, still with an N prefix, but clearly marked 'Centered Tone' and having all the other features that set them apart from the earlier Balanced Tone.

Attached is a photo of my previous N series Centered Tone and also the difference between the early and later logos.
