 Unexpected pitch

Tonight is the first rehearsal of the season for the community band I play in. I should be ready; I've practiced diligently this past fall, winter, and spring. I cleaned my instrument. I checked tuning.

Today I was doing my own practice early. Part way through I took a short break and went out and strolled around the house. Last night's wind had dropped a few more sticks around the back yard, and there were some pine cones too. The latter always amaze me, since the nearest pine tree is on the other side of the house, across the street, and down a hill. Apparently pine cones possess some aerodynamic virtues, besides being able to bounce and roll well. Nature never ceases to amaze.

Anyway, I picked up all that stuff and tossed it away. Then, all refreshed and reset, I went back and resumed playing.

That . . . . was a mistake. Two keys of my clarinet are now sticky with pine pitch. Sigh, I'll think of something. Cheers!

Talcum power if you are in hurry, or rubbing alcohol to clean it.

Alcohol, easy and will not damage anything.

I worked at a carwash in the past, I'm very familiar with tree sap. Denatured Alcohol you can find at any hardware store, it's pretty inexpensive for a pint or half gallon. Pour a little on a microfiber towel and rub vigorously; carefully since it's a clarinet of course. That should work.

Alcohol did the trick. Band rehearsal went pretty well too.
