 Libertas, Lyrique, 576 confusion
Author: klim

Looking into Ridenour Bb clarinets and have been unable to find a clear definition of the various models: Libertas, Lyrique, Lyrique Libertas, RCP, 576, bc . . . You'd think Ridenour's website would lay out the differences in terminology, but I didn't see it there. Would one of you more learned clarinetists please explain or point to a source that would clear this up?

RCP is the abbreviation for Ridenour Clarinet Products. That's the name of the company.

Lyrique is the brand name or line of clarinets that RCP offers. Within that line of instruments you have the various models - Libertas, 570, 575, 576, etc...

The Libertas and the 576 are the current Bb models being offered.

The 575 is the A model.

The 570 is the C model.

The 925 is the bass Bb model.

Thank you very much for that information.

Can you tell me what the bc stands for in 576bc?

What are the differences between the Libertas and the 576?

The B stands for Bb and the C stands for custom. The Libertas is generally considered to be a better instrument, although the two are very similar. I find the Libertas to be a bit less resistant and to project a little bit better than the 576bc. The Libertas also has stiffer keywork.

Thanks. I'm trying to decide between a Libertas and a YCL450. I like the sound of the Libertas and the keywork of the Yamaha. If only I could meld the two!

Hi klim

My only advice of select a clarinet is first how its sounds, then how it feels. (blowing, resistance...) then the keywork and last how its looks.

I use a lyrique in A in my experience is simple, i love it. The keywork you get used to, in my lyrique at first i was no so much convinced (maybe because i was a using a buffet) but at the end the keywork was no problem.

And know im looking a libertas for complete the set

Hope this help

The 576BC is an evolution of the 576B. If I recall correctly, there were some revisions made to the bore design.
