Must be the new chromatic system.
If you've ever seen Lee Thompson from Madness playing tenor sax, you've probably noticed he uses all four LH fingers on the LH main action. So when he plays the standard fingering for C, he's holding down his LH ring finger instead of LH2 (which is on the Bis key). I think he switches to normal LH fimgerings for playing low B and Bb, but plays G# by nudging the G# key with the lower edge of his left hand.
