Looking to pick up a Yamaha 20 for outdoor use. I know the 200's and 250's have a somewhat shorter barrel , I believe 65mm and pitch out sharp
Does anyone know if the 20's have this short barrel or the usual 66mm barrel?

Yeah! I have a CSVR and YCL-200. They have the same barrel length so I guess it's safe to assume that it's a 65mm barrel.
I've also noticed that the YCL-200 is pretty sharp. During marching season, I would have to pull out the barrel till i could see the cork just to be in tune. However, there are so many variables to this like temperature and humidity. It could also be that it's more free blowing than my CSVR so I use harder reeds thus raising the pitch. However, if you play on it long enough, it is possible to play in tune with it.
i can conclude that the YCL-200 has a 65mm barrel but I guess there are too many variables involved to determine if an instrument plays sharp.

Eric, maybe its sharp because the hot weather would raise the pitch of the instrument. and a lot of beginner clarinets are tuned sharp, so it may be a bit of both

I've had the opportunity to measure a number of YCL 200's and 250's and all of their barrels are 65mm which I don't want to deal with or fuss around with .
I just wonder if the earlier 20's had 66mm Barrels?
I'm guessing Yamaha made them 66mm before thinking they needed to make Horns with sharper barrels

I'm pretty sure the Yamaha 200 is an "upgrade" to the old yamaha 250. As far as I'm concerned, they're nearly identical instruments. If i'm correct, the only change they made to the instrument is removing the metal ring around the bell to make it lighter as well as putting on an adjustable thumb rest so I doubt that the older model will have a 66mm barrel.
If I'm correct, Yamaha makes them 65mm barrels because they tune to A442 instead of A440 which is why they use a shorter barrel.

Have you actually checked the pitch of any of those 200s and 250s?
They may well be sharp, but a 65 mm barrel doesn't automatically by itself make a clarinet tune sharp. It depends on the design of the instrument and also the bore size and shape of the barrel.

According to my digital caliper, the YCL-20 barrel measures 65 mm.
These are superb outdoors clarinets. I had cork pads installed on the normally-closed upper joint tone holes of my YCL-20 and it really sings.
I've used a 442-pitched Grabner mouthpiece and 67 mm Moba barrel on mine. Tuning is dead on at normal room temperature with that combo.
