 Buffet R-13 for under $1400
Author: juniorbill

I'm new to the board and don't play the clarinet, but my daughter does. I've been looking at prices for a new Buffet R-13 and I came across a listing on ebay by Melbourne Brass & Woodwind Centre for $1,350. They indicate a 7-day approval period, and I know that's important because each instrument is different. Seems like a great price, and their web site lists the same horn for $2,695, which in U.S. dollars is about $1,408. I'm in the U.S. Does anyone have any knowledge of this company, or any insights into dealing with a music dealer from the other side of the world? Thanks.

Generally, if the instrument is bought outside the US your warrantee will be void in the US unless prior provisions are made. Contact Buffet for their specifics on this.

What you were looking at on eBay is an auction, with an opening bid, or bidding in process. No dealer would go to the expense of paying eBay fees (& other collateral fees like Paypal or BillPoint) if they thought they would only receive $1,350. SO, they are hoping to get the bidding "going", & based upon what the Swiss dealer has been doing on eBay, I would guess that prices will wind up somewhat higher. $1500-1600 is do-able in the U.S., via mail-order.

Best,
mw

I just saw an almost new one on the Sneezy classifieds for $1,000. Check it out.

Yes, and check out www.wwandbw.com. That's woodwind and brasswind's website. They have great prices and are a reliable U.S. company. Also look up International Musical Suppliers (a Sneezy sponsor). Be careful of out of the country buys because of import taxes and lots of other things----like Mark warned about the warranty being void. Important stuff like that.

No, IMS isn't a sponsor. Albert Alphin, Peter Spriggs, Peter Eaton, Patricola, and Global Music International are current sponsors who sell clarinets.
