I am currently on the search for an A clarinet. I currently use my school A but it's not in great condition and if I were to continue renting this horn, it would cost more than buying a used one and selling it later on if I come across a better one.
There is a used E11 at my local music store going for $1000 which i believe is a steal. It's not the best instrument but it's in good condition, definitely plays better than the school one, and when I do get a better one, I believe I can sell it for a similar price.
However, I'm still open to new suggestions. If anyone has a used A under $1500 or knows a reputable seller that's selling one, that'll be great!

I don't know anything about them besides Tom's reputation and the description on his web page, but the Ridenour Lyrique 575 A clarinet is $1,895 brand new. If you can look at a $1,500 used horn, you might be able to swing the extra $400 to get a new one that comes direct from the manufacturer with his satisfaction guarantee. Ridenour has a trial/return policy (see his website). If you like the Lyrique, I think it would probably last you longer than an E-11, which I'd think you would outgrow fairly quickly.
A used R13 or equivalent Bb can be found without much difficulty for a price in the <$1,500 range, but my suspicion is that finding A clarinets of the same quality at all is probably more difficult (but not impossible). There is, I think, less turnover in A clarinets generally among players who buy and use them - there are many more people who play Bb clarinets exclusively. I've seen them on EBay, but you have to watch patiently, and you can't be *really* sure of what you're getting until you've gotten it, when returning an item can be tricky, depending on the vendor.

I know of a very nice Yamaha for $2,000 us$, and I might know of a good Buffet I play tested a while back, not sure if it has been sold, but these are both above your price threshold 😢

Rats, the Buffet I play tested (had GREAT tone) has been sold. The Yamaha, well that's a long story- i KNOW that this is a good instrument because I used to own it) but I think it's over priced for how old it is (it's in GREAT condition, but still over 30 years old) and there would be added cost shipping internationally... sorry about that. I have no advice re the Dubois A clarinet

Take a look at the new Buffet E13 A clarinet. Th new E13 is improved in bore and mechanics.
Here in europe it solds at 1600€...
Very good horn, especially if well selected and adjusted...

You never know what you might come across on the used market... I managed to find my R13 A clarinet for right around $1500 on an forum site (not this one). As long as you're wary of "too good to be true" situations, you can find some real bargains out there.

I'd seriously consider ordering one from Thomann, because there is no supplier in Europe who'd ship a buffet for 30$. Don't know the import taxes in the USA, but the retail prices you guys have for some buffets are ridiculous. So unless the E11 in that music store is in a very good condition, 1000$ isn't really a steal, either.
Please don't misunderstand this as an advertisement, but how can "your" Buffets be that much more expensive when I pay 1,3k€ for an E11 including 19% state tax?
Anyways, I don't see many decent alternatives.

I tried a Ridenour clarinet and wasn't my cup of tea so unfortualtely, I'll have to pass on it.
Unfortunately, the A clarinet my store had was just sold! Looks like i'll have to wait for one online...

As written many times I think the Yamaha CSVR A clarinet is the best A clarinet I've ever played, because the resistance feels like a Bb. Buffets seem a tad bit tubby once you compare the 2. So look around. I'm sure you will find one and you will be very happy.

pd 900. + for this instrument about 4-5 yrs ago thru WWBW. It
plays good and has excellent construction. The Amati instr/company
