Hi everyone. I want to ask which vowels do you think at, when voicing.
I've always played by thinking to an italian 'i' vowel, and I've always been fine with it (I imagine a closed 'i', which gives me much more projection) but today I decided to try something different and put lips forward, like when saying the letter 'q' or like if I was kissing the instrument.

They have a very good sound, but when I try to apply this voicing, my sound sounds like it's losing projection, it s more metallic. So, whqt could I be doing wrong? Does anyone od you think about putting lips more fprward when playing?

I've always been a fan of "eeee" (as in "knee") through "oooo" lips. It's best to keep it simple with the embouchure, if nothing else it makes it easier to remember.

Did you ever try putting lips more forward, like in saying a "q"?

What I see in this video is a somewhat relaxed upper lip, with likely some space between the lip and top teeth. This CAN add some warmth and openness to the sound IF everything else is correct. It's a separate issue from voicing. I just tried what you described (both lips forward as in a kiss) and it caused the tone to lose focus.

I personally feel if you make your lips say a "q," your lower lip won't be curled enough, which means the lower lip is not firm enough. My personal opinion...

I just do it... I use a rubber mouthpiece patch which perhaps makes it a little easier as the lip tends to stay where it's placed instead of sliding back up against the teeth while playing. This is just one way I vary the tone a bit when appropriate. It's not my standard embouchure although I sometimes think it might be better overall. Kind of like how many of us are with double lip.

Ü brings the sides of the mouth in, which can help with a rounder tone, if you have any tendency to shrillness.
