Its funny that there is no mention of the debt that Selmer has incurred for tooling on their Presence and other new pro clarinets in their current line.

I suppose only time will tell how these changes will affect Selmer products and quality going forward. As majority shareholder, the private equity firm will have a say in virtually everything.

I'm wondering how that will affect the American Leblanc operation that was (is) under Conn-Selmer. Will they still produce the made in the US clarinets with the consultation of Julian Bliss? In France, I hope they don't do anything to compromise the quality of the Presence clarinet, a good and affordable pro-level instrument.

Seabreeze, just to clarify. Conn-Selmer (who own Leblanc) and Selmer Paris are completely separate companies and operate as such. Conn-Selmer is simply the USA distributor for Selmer Paris. Therefore, this announcement will have no bearing on Leblanc or our plans for the future.
We (Conn-Selmer) have been fortunate enough to see some fantastic feedback on Selmer Paris Clarinets in the USA especially with the new Presence and Prologue. We hope to continue working closely with them to build the presence (see what i did there!?) of the brand in the USA.

Thanks, Julian, for the clarification. I think most of us have been confused by the status of both the newly-revived Leblanc brand and the Conn-Selmer Corporation. Many players still believe Leblanc clarinets are extinct rather than a continuing "presence."

The effect on quality concerns me as well. Too often new owners send in cost accountants to see if profitability can be increased through cost reductions, like using cheaper materials, or outsourcing some functions. Unless the investment firm that bought a stake in Selmer has some musicians in its executive ranks, that could be Selmer's fate.
Just in case, hang on to your pre-2018 Selmers....

Just heard that there is a Help Wanted sign in Elkhart, IN at the Selmer factory.
Could be a good thing.
