Hi everyone,
I have recently discovered Paulus & Schuler zoom adjustable barrel and i am very interested by tuning possibility this product seems to offer.
I am considering trying some , with my buffet Tosca clarinets (Bb and A).
These barrel are in stock in Thomann website in germany, but there are only two models type: for german clarinet and for french clarinet boehm system buffet RC series.
I just wanted to ask if the clarinettists who actually play these barrels on Buffet Tosca Clarinet have a barrel specific for the tosca model or if they have the french RC model like the model on thomann website?
There is no information on Paulus & Schuler website and some musicstore are specifying « Paulus zoom barrel for Buffet RC, festival, Tosca or Yamaha.. »
Last question; would it be possible to play the barrel with both Bb and A Tosca clarinet?
Thanks very much for answer,

Thank you Ray for your answer,
I’ve checked the link, and each Buffet clarinet’s model seems to have a specific zoom barrel according this website.
But on Thomann, no specification for each buffet clarinet’s model.. just german or french buffet RC.. (no Tosca, festival, yamaha etc.. even out of stock..)
That’s why i was answering someone who play this product on tosca clarinet..

Yeah I wouldn't know the answer to that unfortunately. My GUESS would be that since the RC is more popular in Europe, that's why Thomann only sells the French RC and German models. But I'm not sure

Also, ordering from Europe will be problematic because of the grenadilla portion of the barrel. There would be CITES paperwork, fees, and a couple weeks delay.

Unlike most barrel manufactures, like Backun, which only make a model for a brand, P&S make individual model for different model of clarinets, like RC, R13, Tosca etc. This is simply because the bore of the barrels of these clarinets is different, therefore one single bore is simply impossible to accurately match the clarinet. Using a third party barrel like Backun might change the sound but never expect it to improve the intonation (instead should hope it not make it worse...).

Thanks all for the answer;
So the products (zoom barrel french RC ) on Thomann won’t match my tosca clarinet!

I have a pair of Zoom barrels and recently switched to Tosca clarinets.
They don't work well together.

I love the way that gwie assumes you’re not from Europe!
I was going to suggest checking out the P&S website for more information but I looked at it myself first and see that they have zero info about barrels for different clarinet models. I suppose you could call or email them directly.

A year or so back I was keen on a Zoom barrel and spent a bit of time looking around for them... I found the lack of information quite surprising- yes, there appeared to be different models for different clarinets but vendors seemed to be all a bit secretive with this information (secretive is probably not the right word, but the information was not being circulated). I eventually just forgot about the idea (I tried Frank Cohen's Zoom barrel, as he said "it's just a barrel").
THEN a student turned up with one on his Buffet R13 Vintage, I tried it on my Festival and it works a treat... my interest is reignited, but it seems the "try before you buy" will always be a factor where barrels are concerned.

My apologies, I know the board tends to be US centric and sometimes it slips my mind.
Just for those of us here on this side of the planet, how does CITES affect the sales of wood products throughout Europe?
