 Bay and Legere?
Author: Niclas.e.gustafsson

Been having a most confusing experience. Been playing Grabner LB bass clarinet mpc for a few years.
Just got a hold of a Bay m-mo+ i think its called (doesnt have it here right now). First. Anyone know anything about those?

Then its modified by Jonas Näslund in sweden. Anyone know anything about his work on mouthpieces?

And second. When i play it i feel like its to easy to blow. No resistance at all.
And i hear artefacts in the sound. Hissing and stuff. I feel choked. But here’s the deal. When i record myself the Grabner have more air and less tone and the Bay sounds very close to my ideal bass sound.

Need another pair of ears for sure. But im the only reed player at my work and the rest of the winds think both sounds fine.

Any thoughts from the bee hive?

Regards
Niclas

Niclas...

Why don't you ship the mouthpiece back to me for an evaluation? I'll be glad to look at it.

Please contact me offline to make arrangements.

Hi Walter!

It was a momentary illusion. The grass is greener on the other side, kind of thing.
The Bay plays too nasal and open and yours is really good. Im back playing it full time again.
I think it was that the Bay was very similar to an alto sax mpc so i changed emboshure. And then I became confused going back and forth and screwed up my tone just in time for recording myself to compare.
Listening to it in retrospect, the Bay does sound like a saxofon.. :D

I found a trustworthy set of ears that ensured me the LB is just right balance of low end weight and brigthness to cut through an orchestra, and also works for my solo playing. So i wouldnt change a thing! :)

Many thanks for the offer thought. Im very happy that you took the time answering me!

Regards
Niclas
