Does really I need upgrade ?

Hi,

I have a question, i always have been playing the clarinet with my old E11, it is a good clarinet for me, but always had a lack of intonation issues (playing mostly sharp) last year I decided to buy a moba barrel and bell to upgrade, and all the intonation issues have gone. but I found that in the upper altissimo register was particuarly inestable on tune.

My question, if that is part of nature of these notes or does really need to change of instrument.

BTW, these notes "are less inestable" on intonation without the moba barrel and bell, but mostly are flat

It's easier to go out of tune on really high notes on the best instruments. Changing equipment might or might not help, but at the same time, serious work on playing high notes in tune will help regardless of the equipment. Some lessons with a teacher who sounds good up high might be a place to spend some money before spending it on a new horn.

Maybe go to a store and try some clarinets to see if the problem is the instrument or maybe your embouchure?

I posit that a trip to the technician would be in order here. There are several possibilities that would account for unstable pitch in the altissimo; have all the fixable faults taken care of first. If it's still not up to scratch, perhaps a different clarinet would be in order.

Personally, I've also had mouthpiece facings wear and cause the same malady that you're describing. Have yours checked when the clarinet is in the shop.
