 Muncy Reed Case problems

I've had a Muncy Reed Case for over a year now, and recently I've been having lots of problems with my reeds becoming moldy all the time, and the sponge keeps drying out really quickly. I live in Eastern New Mexico. Does anybody else have these problems?
