Hi, I have question to teachers here, why you reccomend b12 over 255, or opposite.

Out of my time using both instruments, they are perfectly suitable for a beginner. You couldn't go wrong with either. In my opinion, just go with whatever is cheaper or in better condition.

However, I would lean toward the 255. The case is nicer. It's much smaller and has some space for accessories. The B12 case is large, hunky, and has one small barrel sized plastic hole for your accessories, not exactly convenient.

I've noticed that both instruments use different metals. Most of my section uses their student instruments for marching and some of the nickel plating has worn off and you can see the metal. In the 255, the metal is silver and grey, might be nickel. However, for the b12, the metal is brownish and red, might be copper. If i'm correct, Nickel is stronger than copper and wont flex as much. I'm not 100% sure. if there is any input about the metal, that would be helpful.

What about a Backun Alpha? It's a really great instrument, I use one from time to time and it plays really good and isn't that much also...
