 Temporary Tenon Cork Quick Repair

I stumbled upon a great material to replace a tenon cork with a quick fix. My wife had recently completed a knee surgery and she had a span of the self adhesive wrap bandage that is spongy and adheres to itself. I cut a length of it at a 3/8" width and smeared it with paraffin, then wrapped it around my tenon with a number of layers to produce the proper fit. Wrapped tight and pressed, the material has a similar sponginess to cork.
Though I've rotated the tenon joint, I've only removed and replaced the joint rotating the pieces in the same direction as the wrap, but there is no apparent seam.
I don't know the brand of the cohesive wrap bandage that I've used, but it's a little more "orange" than the color of the cork. It may be similar to the Medca non woven cohesive wrap bandage sold on Amazon.
I like it so well that I'm going to keep it for a while to see how it holds up over time. I'll continue with the paraffin wax an not the typical cork grease.
Thoughts?,- have any others tried this material?

Seems like a cool idea. Just check the 2 joints together and make sure they seal. If so you are in great shape.

A lot of people, including repairmen seal pads on the upper and lower registers and the horns still leak. When connecting the joints, including the barrel you sometimes get a leak because the cork is not tight fitting. A secret to watch out for is if the joints wobble, you may have a leak. So check for a leak when the joints are connected together. To help you with this you can buy those rubber plugs from JJ Smith I think. It's worth the cost for the kit, which will last you a lifetime. The plugs will plug up the holes where your fingers go so this will allow you to accurately test for any leaks between the whole clarinet. It's pretty cool.

I like your idea.

I've used masking tape with great success in times of emergency more than once in my playing and teaching career. It's amazing how well and how long it seals if done carefully. I've always had a narrow roll in my studio ready to go if needed.
