Found unbeatable price for Ridenour Encore clarinet mouthpiece.

I do not have any relation with the seller, but I found a seller on EBay (Quin the Eskimo) that is selling brand new Ridenour Encore mouthpieces for $ 25.00. I bought one, and apparently there are nine more available, if you are interested !

Yes I was looking for a Hite Premier or Fobes Debut, or a Gennusa Mezzo, but they were all more expensive than the Ridenour on sale from this seller... also, from what I have heard, the Ridenour Encore is a real quality mouthpiece for beginners, possibly even better than the ones that I mentioned !

I have made several purchases from QuinntheEskimo, including a Selmer Super Action 80 alto sax and a matched set of Selmer Privilege clarinets for my daughter, and the transactions have been flawless.

I second Quinntheeskimo. He sells some of the best models of clarinets, at unbelievable prices!

I'm curious, is he/she actually an Eskimo?

I'm pretty sure that he just picked this name from Dylan's "The Mighty Quinn".

I'll second (third?) the recommendations above - I bought my Yamahas from him, as well as a high-end Yanagisawa bari sax. All the transactions were very smooth, with the items either as-described or better.

Warranted or not, I find it suspicious that all the posters heralding this ebay seller are newish accounts to this bboard (or at least have posted very little).

If my suspicions are wrong, and this is a valid post - I offer a hearty welcome. (But I do suggest a visit to the bboard rules - I don't believe the rules allow us to speak about active auctions.)

Well the Ridenour Encore mouthpiece is sold at an average price between $35-40 and I thought that there was nothing wrong if I informed other forum members that could be interested, that I bought it on E Bay for $ 25.00 and that there are others available at the same price. I live in Rochester, Michigan, and I am a 65 yrs old Italian. Nothing could be more distant from a seller named QuintheEskimo and based in the state of Washington, I believe. Also, I read this in the board rules: "Educational references after a sale has concluded are fine."

gerardo,

I mean no offense. If you were an old veteran of the forum, the post wouldn't have appeared suspicious to me. You're relatively new here, and the other praises of the ebay seller came from people who appear to be new here as well. It simply looked suspicious....as if a seller from ebay were trying to "stack the deck" so to speak.

I do apologize if my statement was rude.

"Fuzzy" -

While some baseline skepticism is a good thing, you might note that I'm posting under my real name. If you care to do a quick search, you'll find that I have participated in the Klarinet mailing list since the early/mid 1990s.

I'm more than willing to address any concerns you might have about my direct experiences with Matt (Quinn).

"Jordan" -

As far as your personal participation in the Klarinet mailing list - I don't doubt it.

However, I had simply said that the supporters of the ebay seller: "... are newish accounts to this bboard (or at least have posted very little)..." - when I click your profile, it shows that you have only posted six posts. That's the information which was available to me...and so, yes - it raised my suspicions. (See attachment for the screen grab of your profile which led me to my conclusion.)

To all concerned:

Mark C and GBK are the moderators of this wonderful BB.

IMHO, they are the only ones authorized to make "judgement" calls on any situation. I believe they are more than capable of handling any kind of situation dealing with the rules of the BB.

I sincerely hope that the "old timers" to this BB will give a hearty "welcome" to those who are new to this BB and have posted only a few times.

Nobody enjoys being judged on a public forum. I know I don't.

Kindness and friendliness, IMO, are essential for this BB to continue being great and can help future newbies to post for the first time.

I believe that anyone who doesn't say: IMO, IMHO, from my perspective, from my point of view or any other such language that directly indicates an opinion is to follow is actually making a judgement statement. Depending upon the personalities involved, I believe some people's feelings can get hurt.

Some time ago, I was "guilty" of bringing everyone's attention to the CL4 mouthpiece being sold on that auction site for a ridiculous price. No one found fault with me. Matter of fact, I believe it was John Gibson who actually thanked me for mentioning it because he bought one right away.

Let's not chase newcomers away. Rather, I suggest that we "old timers" go out of our way to make them feel comfortable, to make them feel welcomed.

IMHO, this is how this BB will continue to stay great.

Mark C and GBK, my thanks for doing a wonderful job with this BB.

Yes, this post actually got missed by Glenn and I - it would normally have been taken down since it's in reference to a current eBay auction, but at this point it's moot.

Just to let you all know: I live in South Florida (North Palm Beach) and Irma is headed up the West coast of Florida. It might end up heading over the East coast where I live too - hurricanes "wobble" - and this is a BIG one ... but ...

I had to take a business trip to Cancun earlier in the week so I extended it a few more days. Someone's gotta take those business trips - might as well be me. I'm just hoping my condo is OK when I get back - I'm right on the intracoastal and who knows what the storm surge will do :(

Take care if you're anywhere near that storm!

Mark C.

Good luck Mark, and I am sorry for having posted the info about the E Bay sale, being new I was not 100% familiar with the rules. In good faith, I just wanted to give a useful information to other beginners like me that are members of this forum and are looking for a good mouthpiece without breaking the bank. I'll be more careful in the future. Again, all the best to you an to your family and we all cross our fingers hoping that the hurricane will not be so damaging.

Veteran posters on this forum--such as Brad Behn and Tom Puwalski--have in the past recommended Quinn the Eskimo as a reliable source for top quality clarinets and clarinet accessories at a bargain price. But that was after, not during, the sale.

Hey Dan, thanks for bringing up those CL4's. I bought a couple dozen of those kits at $35 a pop, and have been handing them out to very grateful students for quite awhile. :)

I bought one of these recently from the source mentioned. Very prompt and professional service, and what a nice sounding mouthpiece this is for me! I haven't fully put it through it's paces, but the tone was beautiful and the response over the range was a bit more even than the Fobes Debut I have here. Great articulation, decent altissimo response. Extremely well tuned on the instruments I tested it on. Looking forward to having some of my younger students give it a spin.

I have never bought from this seller, but one of my friends recently had his bassoon stolen and found it listed by this seller on the famous auction site.

Hi everyone-

I am quinntheeskimo here, and I would like to thank the people who have recommended me as a great place to get great clarinets at unbelievable prices.

I'd like to assure everyone that this is my first post here and I have not been 'fluffing' up my reputation with other accounts.

With regards to the stolen bassoon, I did indeed purchase a pre-1877 Heckel bassoon from a reputable source that turned out to be stolen. This was complicated by the fact that before 1877, Heckel did not use serial numbers on their instruments so it was difficult to check the provenance of it, but AS SOON as I was informed that it was a stolen instrument I removed the listing for sale and I am currently in the process of returning it to its rightful owner.

When you deal in used instruments as I do, and as many as I do, stolen instruments are indeed a hazard, and we AGGRESSIVELY attempt to locate and return stolen instruments to their rightful owners. I have returned stolen instruments to members of the Minnesota Orchestra, the Houston Symphony, and the Cleveland Orchestra, among others, and some of my 'biggest' returns include a stolen Fox contrabassoon, two Brannen handmade flutes, and a golden period Heckel bassoon.

We have never, under any circumstances, knowingly sold a stolen instrument and we never will. I would like to ask anyone who has concerns about an instrument that we are selling to contact us directly rather than post in a public forum such as this and we will take immediate action.

We are here to serve the music community, and we appreciate your continued support! Thank you all!

Matt (Quinn)

P.S. Not a real eskimo :)
