When I drove to work this morning I heard a classic recording by Minneapolis Symphony doing the Mendelsssohn 4th. Nice ring to the clarinet sound even on my poor car stereo. Anyone know who is in the clarinet section? Probably post Walter Thalin.

Yes, I thought that Chris Leuben told me that Walter Thalin left in the middle 1950s for Long Beach, CA where he played in the Long Beach City Band. In the late 1940s, I heard that orchestra many times as a student at the U of M and clarinet player in the school orchestra and band. To hear Thalin and Angelucci play together was wonderful. Thalin blew so strongly on his Selmers that air passed from the sides of his mouth a lot, but that could not be heard with his beautiful sound in the audience. I studied with Earl Handlon who played in the clarinet section with Thalin.

Fun fact: Handlon was Marcellus' teacher before he studied with Bonade.
