As many of you know, Conn-Selmer has exclusive distribution rights for Selmer Paris instruments. There was a time (1960s) when the Conn-Selmer organization would not allow an individual to import a Selmer Paris instrument into the USA without their written permission. I know, because I asked and was refused permission. The alternative was to deface the logo so a customs agent would not confiscate the instrument or try to roll the dice and hope customs would not catch you trying to "sneak" the instrument into the country.
