I am 65 yrs old and am quite a beginner, my current clarinet is a new Buffet Premium (similar to Prodige) student, that I really like a lot. I have a question: is there a "step up" hard rubber mouthpiece that does not cost a lot, and is still versatile and not too difficult to play, that you can suggest me ? I mean, something that will be an improvement compared to the usual Yamaha 4C, Hite Premier, Fobes Debut ? Thank you for your suggestions !

Gerardo,
Well, the Premier and Debut are both huge step ups from the 4C. From there you have a lot of choices. Some like the Vandorens, of which there are many, but I would look at the D'Addario Reserve mouthpieces. They have 3 different facings to choose from. Most local music stores carry them, so you should be able to stop in and try them all. See which facing works best. In addition to current reeds, I'd bring at least one strength stronger, as you'll likely need them for the closer facings to test it fairly.

I'm curious about what mouthpiece came with your clarinet. I don't know what they're packing in the case these days.
I'd second Doug's recommendation of Vandoren or d'Addario. You'd probably find the closer-tipped facings easier to play - Vandoren M13, M13-Lyre or M15 or d'Addario X0 or X5. But one size doesn't fit all.
