 Buffet student clari vs Backun
Author: thereallukasj

I hope to very soon try out Buffet's Premium/Prodige and Backuns Alpha and Beta to compare the clarinets. I just wanted to see if anybody has tried either of the Buffet student models and the Backun student models to get some commentary on their playing qualities.

Thanks for any insightful opinions and commentary.

I just went through the process of helping a whole bunch of students get set up with instruments. Lots of Buffet Prodige's and Yamaha YCL-255's. They're both decent enough as student instruments go.

However, two of my students spent a bit more to get the Backun Alpha, and it is a better instrument. Certainly the quality of the keywork of the Backun is superior. The intonation is very good overall, and I like the version with silver-plated keys.
