 ClarinetFest 2017 Vendors
Author: Sean.Perrin

I encountered a lot of great things at ClarinetFest and think it was a truly amazing event which I was thrilled to attend.

Here are the "newest and neatest" things I encountered at the Orlando 2017 vendor area, and thanks to the many people who came to say "hi!"

I hope you enjoy the video. What was your favourite thing about the event?

Thanks for posting this, Sean! I've never been to a Clarinet Fest - so it was great to see this little "inside scoop" of what it's like. I really enjoyed seeing some of the outside-the-box ideas presented by some of the designers!

You did get in Brad Behn. A wonderful man! We had a very short conversation. I wish it was longer. Maybe over dinner or something. You might think that people in the mouthpiece business may not like each other, but I don't think so. I'm good friends with Greg Smith. I'm friends with most people in the business. Sometimes we share a few tips, but I think we all hold in those special measurements and designs that make a difference.

You missed my booth with the new 2 week old mouthpiece design, which took about 3 years to make; just out on the market and of course the Steuer reeds played by artists such as Sabine Meyer! Sold about 30 to 35 mouthpieces I guess. Lost count. Sold out of reeds. We even took free photos of everyone! That was fun!

I know you can't hit up everyone. You did a good job with the video. Thanks for sharing it.

Sean,

Your camera focused in on a few offerings that I missed even visiting the vendors several times. The new American cut in Peter Leutner reeds that Clark Fobes is offering and the new Vandoren rose gold M/O ligature, for instance, escaped my attention. There is so much going on at events like these it is hard to see everything. The Yamaha table at the very end of the video seemed a bit rushed and they didn't show their CVSR and SEVR instruments, bargains in today's market. Overall, though, congrats on good coverage of the vendor expo.

Thanks seabreeze! I appreciate your thoughts.

However, I want to make it clear that I didn't "rush" anyone, or "not give them the chance." Quite the contrary for those involved I would say!

People presented what they were comfortable with after I asked what their newest and neatest items were. Some spoke more, some spoke less. I tried to include as much as I could, and would have loved to do more but due to time constraints and how INCREDIBLY busy some tables were, I was not able to capture everything.

To be fair there was a short clip if the yamaha duet wood/plastic horn that somehow slipped through the cracks.

Sorry I missed you Bob! We should perhaps do an interview on the podcast regardless!

Sean! Sure a podcast would be fun, but don't worry about it. We were jammed up most of the time so this may be why you skipped us!

I'm glad you got to video a lot of the new toys! I really enjoyed your video. There was a record of 1500 people there this year, so I'm sure you had issues with finding people with time to chat. This was the biggest convention ever. Then sound issues! Finding ways to record people with 1500 clarinet players testing out stuff!

As stated above I didn't have time to spend with some of the people either, like Brad, Julian Bliss, and even Yamaha. Hope Yamaha wasn't too mad! We all got slammed. It was great to see so many high school and college students popping up. Also a huge amount of college instructors stopping by.

Howard Klug was there from Indiana University. He taught Julian Bliss. He has some other very famous past students sitting in major orchestra and military bands.

I encountered many amazing people, and I couldn't believe how busy the vendor area was. Constant traffic! You guys must have been completely run off your feet!
