Fobes Nova Mouthpiece Diameter? (Bass Clarinet)
Author: Spaceknight

Hi there, so after quite a bit of research, I've narrowed which bass clarinet mouthpiece I'm getting to the Fobes Nova. However, I am wondering what the diameter of the end is... I've been looking around, it does not appear to be standardized, but there is no mention of the size around, on any mouthpiece really. My bass clarinet neck has an opening of about 29mm, or something like that, and before I drop 150$ on a mouthpiece, I'd like to know if it will actually fit.

Thanks for any info,

~Nathan

Clark is a super nice guy and very approachable. Shoot him an email or call.

Bass clarinet tenons tend to be a bit bigger than that. Zinner based blanks are about 29.50. I have an old Selmer C* that measures about 29.23.
I have some Vandorens that are around 29.10.

I am sure that Clark's mouthpiece will fit, but of course, you can always ask him.

I have an old Kohlert bass clarinet that originally had a socket diameter of 29.0mm. It wouldn't fit any of my bass clarinet mouthpieces when I received it. I had to enlarge the socket to 29.8 just to fit my favorite Selmer C*, and even now it's still a bit tight. 30.0 mm seems to be the standard socket diameter for modern bass clarinets.

What instrument do you have and what mouthpiece are you using now?

My bass clarinet has a 30.0mm socket. A Fobes mouthpiece I bought was 29.0mm so it had a slight wobble.
