 Mouthpiece stuck on Holton Collegiate

Hi
I recently got a Holton Collegiate metal clarinet, and the mouthpiece is stuck on the neck/barrel/I don't really know what to call this bit.

If it was a cheap, crummy mouthpiece I would just leave it on there, but it's a pretty good one that I want to be able to use on my other clarinets.

As its metal, I've tried running the metal bit around the cork of the mouthpiece (not getting the mpiece wet, though) under hot water to try and get it to expand and release the mouthpiece, as basic physics will tell you that metals expand under heat.

I know that if the mouthpiece gets stuck they say to put it in the refrigerator for a bit, but I think that would have the opposite effect for the reason stated before.

I can't really take this mouthpiece to a tech to have them look at it, so does anyone have any suggestions for getting this darn mouthpiece off the instrument?

Also, I think I'm just going to end up ripping the cork by taking it off the way I am (gentle brute force)

If the mouthpiece is stuck, then it's most likely the diameter of the tenon binding in the socket and not the cork.

You will be able to remove it by both gently rocking it in opposite directions which will eventually free it. Once a gap between the mouthpiece shoulder and top of the socket forms, place something in there such as a piece of card, then rock it in the opposite direction to pinch the card. Then wedge that side with more card and rock it back to pinch that. Keep doing this and increasing the thickness of the wedges and that will eventually free it. Be patient and don't use excessive force as you don't want to shear off the tenon or break the socket.
