Is your instrument used or new? I've played a new Backun Protege that was obviously mangled in some way by unknown hands ... terrible!
My 650 "out of the box" is better setup than my R13-Greenline, even after some shop attention and with cork pads on the top joint. Fit and finish and bore looks better on the Yamaha too. Not to say the 650 plays better ... I actually prefer the R13 for many occasions ... just like the density and focus of the Buffet made with the composite material.
My occasional stand partner in a community band plays a 650 also and in a local semi-pro wind symphony there are 2 more players that use the 650s (amazing) ... a smattering of R13s, Festivals, a Selmer 10G and, of course the 650s and a Lyrique Libertas (me) ... (you'd think it would be all Buffet Mafia) ... we all tune well together and blend as one ...
In any case, sounds like you got a dud! Wow!
I've been a Yamaha fan for a long time ...
