 Buffet clarinet on ebay

Looks like a winner! Most likely an R-13 or comparable older clarinet. Check it out and there's no reserve! No it's not mine, but I thought I'd pass the link along.

Read the ad headliner. It's an Evette, not an R13.

It's an Evette, or could be an Evette Master. My Evette isn't marked "Master", but turns out to be one. I played through about 50 horns before selecting my Evette when it was new in 1969. I just had it overhauled completely and it still is heads and shoulders better than my 1950's vintage R-13. Some Evettes have wonderful tone and intonation and are a joy to play. On mine the notes just effortlessly pop out whenever you play it.

I have heard that the Evettes of that vintage were often R-13's with cosmetic problems which received the Evette label. I don't know if this is true. This horn may be worth trying... however I did buy another Evette on e-Bay once and it did not capture the majic of my Evette Master, that's why I got the R-13.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Terry

Terry, somebody once said that 95% of the trouble with any clarinet was (directly)behind it.

Your experience and feeling about your Evette-Buffet horn goes the opposite direction, I think.

This is not a bad thing. Its GREAT!

However, it demonstrates just how we can (sucessfully) blend with our clarinet when we are pleased & have good karma about things..

Best,
mw

The Evette instruments held the same place in Buffet's lineup that the E series does now. Just as there is today an E-11 and E-13, there was the plain Evette and the Evette Master Model. There may even have been other Evettes.

I remember reading on this site that Francois Kloc attested to the fact that Evette Masters were cosmetically flawed R-13s.

Interesting! I have an Evette&Schaeffer, Paris France, Modele Buffet Crampon, ser.# K3456, which I consider to be my "poor-mans" R13. It plays easily and well in tune with itself, but needs a slightly shorter barrel [than 67 mm] or a shorter mp to be up to today's pitch!! So, Id like to expand this thread to include discussion of the "family". TKS, Don
