Pedler clarinet

Hello everyone, trombonist here. I recently picked up a metal clarinet at a thrift shop for fun, and I'm wondering if any of you could help me date it based on the serial number... It's a Pedler Hoosier, and from what I understand it was made by Martin after they bought Pedler. That's all I can figure out about it. The serial # is 22618. If anyone knows more about these and could tell me how old it is that'd be great

It is a student model probably made in the mid 1930s. 90% of student model metal clarinets were made in the 1930s. There is a terrific website devoted to serial numbers (The Music Trader) at https://www.musictrader.com/serialnumbers

But no info on Pedler. I think I've seen some Pedler numbers in the 3000 range, so your's isn't among the newest.

I wouldn't put too much money into it. For whatever reason, restored student models don't sell for all that much more than unrestored ones. And some techs don't like working on them. But, once restored it will be almost as good as one of the better modern student models.

Thanks for the info! I'll definitely check out that website for other old instruments I run across.

Don't worry, I'm not planning on putting any money into it to make it playable. I'm thinking it'll make a nice lamp
