 Buffet B12 advice
Author: Debra

I am interested in a Buffet Crampon clarinet being auctioned, for my daughter. I am needing a little technical advice in a very short amount of time in order to make a decision and bid on this instrument (approx. 1 hour from now!). I may not receive a reply to this message in time, but it's worth a shot!

This clarinet is advertised as a model BC2540-5-0. This is a Buffet B12 clarinet, which I've been told is a good little starter clarinet. I feel pretty comfortable about it's representation, but in the description it states that it has a 14.65 mm bore diameter and a 65 mm barrel. I don't know if this indicates that this clarinet has had some modifications/additions, or are these standard/stock measurements?

I have checked the serial #609477 which indicates that the instrument was manufactured in '98 on the Buffet web-site. What I can't find is any correlation with the model #BC2540-5-0 given anywhere?

Anyway, ANY help/advice/suggestions at all about this instrument would be GREATLY appreciated. I will be anxiously waiting to hear back from anyone!

Sincerely,
Ms Davis

The bore diameter and barrel length are standard.

Congratulations. It looks like you won the bidding. If the mouthpiece is stock Buffet, you should get either a Fobes Debut or Hite Premier. Let us know how it works out.

Remember, too, that brand new B12's w/case & 1 yr warranty & care kit ... have been sold recently for $319.95 by an authorized B & H catalogue dealer. One particular catalogue seller has been allowing free shipping & handling as well. SO, when you pay $215.00 for a used clarinet you are not saving as much as one might think. OF COURSE, if the $215.00 was really new/never used (I was watching, too) & everything else checks out perfectly .... I would agree its a nice purchase.

Best,
mw

I think that 65mm barrel can be stock, but usually a 66 mm is included. Am I wrong?
