 Rough barell

I just purchesed a 1963 Evette and have overhauled it. I love it but I have a concern about the inside of the barell,it is quite rough. I dont want to go near sanding it but am curious why it is rough when all other internal paprts are like glass.

Second I am not really having much more pleasue from the feel tone of the instrument. I have to admit my B12 is better

Any ideas?
