Realistically, the Amati ACL-261 is about the only readily available solution in a new instrument at that price point.

I like the quality and value of the older Selmer Paris e flat clarinets. They have excellent and high enough pitch in the altissimo money notes and sound great!

Dave, the lack of a Ridenour E-flat has been a topic of some discussion here; it's not gonna happen. Hopefully, Morrie Backun will see fit to offer E-flat models at some point.
I suggested the Amati as a possible turnkey solution. If time isn't of the essence, I'd personally wait for a good fixer-upper Leblanc, Selmer, or Noblet/Normandy to come along, then have it rebuilt to my specifications. With this approach, there'd be plenty of room in the budget for a good mouthpiece and perhaps some of Clark Fobes' accessories.

I'll have to look back on that discussion. Funny, it seems to my mind, that manufacturers like Tom, who make their wares out of non-Blackwood materials (Tom's being hard rubber) might benefit, from a business standpoint, being in the Efer space.
I say this because (I just don't know) it might be harder to source billets of Blackwood for Efers than Bfers or A's, given the former is formed as a single pipe, rather than the upper and lower joints of the latter two, formed from separate billets.

the thomann cheap instruments seem to get decent reviews. they might have an Eb clarinet.
I haven't personally tried them though.

If I won the lottery, I'd personally fund Tom's R&D for an Eb. Maybe if the typical tuning problems could be fixed for an average HS student, more band directors could use the instrument. Maybe create its own demand across the country.

I've never saw any advantage in owning a Eb Sopranino Clarinet unless you needed one in a Symphony Orchestra. And in a military / concert band only one is needed anyway. They could be used in playing Eb Alto Saxophone music sounding an ocatve higher. A C Soprano Clarinet is much more useful.

Most wind ensemble pieces (and marches) require an Eb. More often than not they are their own part...not just doubling flute/1st Bb clarinet. Purist conductors will always have one. In college we always had an alto clarinet. If a composer wrote a part for the instrument, someone was playing it. Otherwise why bother.
I guess for it's a timbre issue for me.

I haven't seen many reviews for it but there is that hard rubber Martin Freres Eb clarinet. It has a review on the ClarinetPages and I had mentioned it before in past Eb clarinet posts but I don't remember anyone purchasing one.
I'd second a used Noblet. The one I borrowed from my school was a pretty decent horn.

After Tom Ridenour made his C clarinet, I had high hopes he'd turn his attention to the E-flat. Ted Ridenour discouraged that notion to me a while back ... apparently something inherently screwy or just not enough business to make it worthwhile ... I'm thinking a total re-design paradigm shift, even a resized MP ... ??? Start from scratch?
BTW ... Tom Ridenour is 70 years young, today.
Backun is working on an Effer ... I hope we have an Alpha model! How cool would that be!
