 How to adding overtones to the core sound ???

I have heard that "adding overtones to the core sound" will bring a ping and a ring to the sound.

So...
-What is the ping and the ring ???
-What is the advantage of the tone that has more ring ???
-How to get more ring and ping ???
-How to adding overtones to the core sound ???

My unscientific opinion? A reed a little bit on the "light" side, and a stiff inflexible ligature (such as metal ligatures or the silverstein ligature). A hard reed and/or flexible ligatures (soft rovners, string, velcro, etc) in my opinion dampen the vibration quicker than metal and I believe (not KNOW, "believe"), that they prevent the higher frequency overtones from being added to the overall sound which changes what is heard.

Without being able to hear you, general advice is the best I can give. I appreciate Sfalexi's thoughts, but I suggest that the primary driver of overtones is the pressurization of wind: at the source in your middle, and right before the air enters the mouthpiece by keeping the back of the tongue high.

The balance of overtone to fundamental that one wants is achieved (most easily) by *knowing what you want sound like*. Your ear will direct your musculature to create the sound your want. I'm sure others will have more thoughts, and I look forward to reading them.

PS: I should say that I agree, generally, with sfalexi -- I'd just start with my own personal fundamentals before adjusting equipment.

I've already mentioned rod Rubber's properties (I switched to Behn's rod rubber hourglass barrel along with my mouthpiece). I agree with Alexi too. My solid silver ligature provides additional overtones. I'm sure there are less expensive options to do that the same thing. (Bonade inverted?)
But sometimes 'what not to use' is just as helpful. Though I'm a fan, Legere Euro signature reeds seems to dampen overtones for me. It's not a deal breaker to keep me from using them. The benefits out weigh a small loss.
I've also found barrels like Moba, great products, but seem to cover my sound.
Cane will probably give more energy to you sound. Thinner walled barrel may do the same thing...add overtones. But at the end of the day what you're physically doing to produce the sound is the most important. Tongue position, embouchure, breadth support. No magic wands...it's just practice.

Just to offer something different: Try voicing oral cavity variations. Think different vowel sounds while playing. A, E, I, Ahh, Ooo, etc. Yawn while playing to explore opening up your nasal cavity to resonate sound. Keep doing the variations that sound better to you.

Equipment-wise, consider a mouthpiece with a thin tip rail.

Keith, will thinning the tip rail on a mouthpiece made with thicker rails have the same result as using a mouthpiece actually designed with a thinner tip rail. all other physical characteristics kept the same?

You take the clarinet, mouthpiece, reed and ligature and then find some overtones that you like and use a good recipe. Here is a good one just replace the ingredients https://www.snotr.com/video/1262/Beatbox_cooking

Just looking at the equipment you said you use, you already have a lot there to make a very vibrant core sound, namely the Buffet RC clarinet and the Ishimori gold ligature. The Kuckmeier Soloist M, on the other hand, tends to produce a very dark sound with many of the overtones dampened. The Vandoren M13L and the Vandoren B40L, both used by many orchestral clarinets, are likely to give you a broader (certainly higher) sampling of possible overtones. Have you tried these two just for comparison? Some Vandorens, though, like the M30D and the BD5, tend to play with more of a Kuckmeier sound, dark and covered.

I agree with other posters that many cane reeds would probably add overtones and I would especially suggest that you try Brad Behn's new Aria reeds for added vibrancy. Buffet Icon barrels might also add some sparkle.

I second the Aria reed recommendation. I just had my first two hour rehearsal on them, after breaking them in since last Wednesday. I noticed a huge difference in tone, resonance and stamina! I don't know how they hold up long-term yet, but they are a dream so far.

Yes. But I guess all other characteristics are rarely the same. Thinning a tip rail from the inside will make more of a roll over baffle unless it is lowered as part of the job. The roll over baffle will also add higher partials (overtones) to the tone that you hear as brightness.
