Evette Master Model, appears to actually be made by Buffet Crampon, says made by Buffet, marked France, has the sharp blue steel needle springs. I've never seen an R-13 in person up close. Just asking because it looks to be higher quality than your average step up model. It has an unusual spring configuration on the low (F/C?) key. The spring is attached to the key itself instead of the post, and it looks like the spring locks into a groove in the wood. I should have looked closer before taking it apart but I didn't expect this.
I'm thinking to do it up with cork upper joint pads and leather lower joint pads.

Unless it has an R13 serial number (somewhere between 50000-70000) it's not an R13. Despite popular belief, few rejected R13s were sold as Evette Master Models. Most were sold as "Academy Model" clarinets.

No, it doesn't have a serial number in that range and the number has a D prefix. Oh well, looks like a nice horn anyway. Can't wait to rebuild this one.

After a re-pad, it should still be a great horn. With a decent mouthpiece it will play almost as good as any R13.

About 20 years ago, I bought an Evette Master Model that looked a lot like my R13. After repadding it, I found that the low register was generally dull, unfocused, and a little flat. The holes were not undercut so I did an undercutting of all or most of them. This made it sound much more in tune, up to pitch, and with a reasonably focused sound. Later I sold it to a student. I don't know the serial number of that instrument.

I'm looking at mine here. It is disassembled, all key work removed. Looks like the largest holes on the lower joint, plus the open holes where the rings fit, have some undercutting. You can see that the holes are not conical all the way to the bore, but get larger underneath. The upper joint might have a little but it's harder to see with the narrow holes.
The bore of the upper joint looks like it is 14.5mm on both ends.
I don't actually know what all of this means, except narrow bore (14.5mm) is supposed to have a sweet tone.

I had an Evette-Shaffer E13. One well known retailer was adamant that the only difference between the R13 and E13 was polishing of the bore. A the time, the only difference in "retail price" was about $275, I think ...
The first good R13 it tried did not play very much like my E13 ... but that could have had more to do with variability of Buffet ...
