Ridenour Noblissima Review After 1 Month + Help

Hello you guys! I wanted to bring a review of my Noblissima after 1 month. (Noblissima is the more affordable model of the Lyrique 576 which doesn't have 2 barrels and a leather case). After 1 month, I'm really happy with the instrument.

If you read my previous post, I said that the instrument was very inconsistent and some notes wouldn't play out. After 1 month, this issue completely went away. This instrument has some of the best throat tones and lower register. However, in my opinion, it is lacking in the upper register responsiveness. I cannot play very short staccatos with that "ping" that I like.

I tried my friends handpicked r13. I think they are 2 completely different instruments. The r13 is very compact and you can tell that the instrument has a very small bore by blowing through it. I don't know how this affects performance but I would like to get my hands on a R13 or something similar to that with the same bore design. I like the feel of that instrument. It feels like I have more control of the instrument and I know what i'm going to play.

I've played my noblissima outside for an hour. The keys have tarnished like crazy. The throat tone G# key is turning black. I don't mind tarnished keys, I actually think they're somewhat neat because it gives it that vintage old/worn out look.

I would like to ask a question however. When I am playing in a small room, i hear a ringing sound in the upper register B-F#. It's not very audible but if you hear carefully, there is a shrillness to it which cannot be heard from the upper register G-C. However, once i played in my school's concert hall or the houses living room (no carpet), it seems to disappear. Also, My tuning B is very airy. I know that it takes practice to make it sound as clear and not blurry as other notes but this one is exceptionally fuzzy.

I just wanted to give you guys my thought on the Ridenour Noblissima. I'm really happy with the instrument and it makes me want to practice and really learn the instrument inside out. I also was hoping that you guys could answer some of the questions that I had. mentioned previously.

1) Any instruments that have the same "compactness" that the R13 has? My local store is selling a Yamaha CSG. Would the r13 be similar to that?
2)Upper register B-F# very shrilly. Could be leak in pad above 3 finger holes?
3)Tuning B is very airy. Practice or leak?

I've dug out my 4 year old Ridenour Lyrique Speranza (similar to 576) ...

As far a stuffy B, my Speranza is exceptional with a nice clear bell B. Shrillness might be your MP or reed ... One thing that Tom's clarinets share is a very sweet and subdued upper clarion and altissimo register.

My Libertas is closer to the R13 ... and keys are nicer and fit my fat little hands better.

For wood clarinets, the Yamaha's rock ... YCL-650 is good, and the CSVR might be the best on the planet ...

Keep your Ridenour ... I will always serve you well. You can add more clarinets to your arsenal later ... it's all fun!

Tom
