Hey folks check this out on eBay:
Frank Kaspar Chicago bass clarinet mouthpiece
Item #1434149218.
Right now it's up to $585
Be honest people, how much of this is mystique, hype, good advertising? About $300 worth?
Is this really really worth the asking price or are we after bragging rights here?. Note that at that price the reserve has not yet been met. Comment?

I would doubt that this piece would be as good as my custom made Charles Bay piece which cost me about $300.

I doubt it plays as well as the $100 crystal Pomarico that I refaced. But whoever gets the Kaspar can sure brag about it a lot! That's gotta be worth something.

Most of the Kaspar bass mouthpieces i've played have been far better than any of the other models currently on the market. If i had $700 for one, that would be what i'd play. But instead i settle for Rick Sayre's mouthpieces with cost about $135 and are about 95% as good as Kaspars (since he was Kaspar's student). And at 95%, i still think his mouthpieces are better than any of the OTHER models currently on the market.
But then again, personal taste plays a big part in this whole matter. :-)

The best mouthpiece in the world is still the wrong mouthpiece if the tip opening and facing curve don't suit the player.
